Women in Motion — Health, environmental protection, mobility and sustainability
☀️ The sun shone for the first edition of Women in Motion.
An inspiring day dedicated to health, the environment and women’s empowerment.
The first edition of our Women in Motion project took place in bright sunshine and brought together 47 committed women, including 17 participants who arrived on time for the bike ride and 8 who joined later. Our guests of honour and speakers were also present, including:
- Christelle Yobo, an SPD representative for Hamburg-Mitte
- Anna Loewe, a spokesperson for the Green Party

The day began with a group bike ride, accompanied by Hamburg police and two firefighters. Starting at the Esso petrol station, the route led to the conference hall, where enthusiastic participants were already waiting for the group.
🎤 Three hours of engaging talks followed, exploring the project’s central themes:
- 🌍 Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and actively protecting the environment
- 🚴♀️ Improving health through exercise: cycling as a full-body workout
- 💪 Empowering women through greater visibility, independence and mobility
✍️ Registration then opened:
- 15 women signed up for the learn-to-cycle programme
- 9 women expressed an interest in German language courses

African Diaspora Cup – Final 2023
The African Diaspora Cup brings people together across cultures, nurtures talent and strengthens the African community in Germany.
The tournament takes place in Hamburg every year and continues to grow. An increasing number of teams representing different African countries compete over two months, sharing their passion for sport and their cultural diversity.
The African Diaspora Cup aims to:
- Promote integration and social cohesion
- Discover and support talented young players
- Strengthen connections within the African diaspora
- Establish a sports club in the long term that could compete in the higher leagues, ideally even the Bundesliga
Alongside sporting excellence, the project focuses on cultural visibility and lasting support for young talent. The tournament gives young people in particular a chance to show their skills while building confidence, team spirit and prospects for the future.
Support us!
To develop this forward-looking project further, we are looking for committed partners, supporters and sponsors who can contribute funding, goods or expertise.
Let us build bridges together through sport, respect and solidarity. We welcome all forms of collaboration and are available for discussions, presentations and tailored partnerships.

Welcome Ukraine 🇺🇦
On 27 August 2022, Afrika Time e.V. held a special barbecue in Hamburg’s Hammerpark to warmly welcome newcomers from Ukraine. In beautiful weather, almost 100 people from many different countries came together, united by curiosity, openness and the pleasure of sharing time together.
The atmosphere was warm and lively from the start. The buffet offered food from different cultures, and conversations soon turned to new lives in Germany, personal experiences and the world’s diversity. Particularly heartening was the fact that everyone spoke German together, strengthening the sense of community.
The celebration was part of Afrika Time e.V.’s monthly activities, which reflect the association’s core values: solidarity, cultural appreciation, respect, social cohesion and integration. That day, these values came to life through everyone’s openness and warmth.
Performances by artists from Ukraine and Africa were a highlight of the afternoon. Ukrainian artist Diana travelled from Bielefeld especially for the event. International choreographer Sikanmanian Ette Kelly and the Senegalese drumming group also delighted the audience. Their performances inspired wonder, dancing and laughter, showing how music and art can build bridges.
It was especially moving to see passers-by stop spontaneously and join the celebration. They were impressed by the solidarity and diversity on display, a powerful sign that Hamburg is a truly multicultural city where openness and community are part of everyday life.
A heartfelt thank you to Bürgerstiftung Hamburg for supporting this special celebration. Encounters like these show how important it is to reach out to one another and work together for a better, more caring world.
The Welcome Ukraine celebration was much more than a barbecue: it was a celebration of humanity, hope and togetherness. It showed that when we meet, listen to one another and celebrate together, understanding and friendship grow, regardless of our background or language.

German-African Cultural Festival 2022
The festival audience
Our festival brought together people from all social and cultural backgrounds. It welcomed every generation, including many families and young people from different cities.
Visitors enjoyed the wide range of activities, the lively and colourful stands, the warm welcome at each one and the festival’s friendly, joyful atmosphere. They were pleased to encounter different cultures on the beautiful lawn, and shared the view that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. Many were delighted to discover the beautiful green setting of Elbpark, made available to us by the Hamburg-Mitte district administration.
Impact
The exchanges during the festival and the welcoming surroundings of the spacious Elbpark helped us reach a diverse audience eager to discover other cultures and share ideas. The activities provided practical information, cleared up misunderstandings and highlighted the benefits of learning about other countries’ cultures, which still receive too little public attention.
Coverage of the event in the media of our invited partners and compatriots also raised Hamburg’s profile in several cities and countries.
By discovering the distinctive features of 15 countries and talking with other visitors, the audience could see that we have more in common than what sets us apart. These encounters encouraged a better-informed, more empathetic view of people from abroad, particularly Africans.
Over three days, the festival welcomed people of every generation and more than 30 cultures. Families, young people, children and older visitors came from cities across Germany and from other countries, including as far away as America. In summary:
True dialogue between cultures begins when our values are based on an understanding of universal principles rather than a single cultural norm. These values reach beyond all borders.

Hamburg Fashion Week
International African designers presented their new cotton collections. Fashion Week gave designers with African roots the opportunity to introduce their work to a German audience.
A three-day exhibition at Kreativ Gesellschaft Hamburg, at Mönckebergstraße 2–4, accompanies this initiative. The central message is integration through fashion, as well as cotton’s role in addressing environmental damage caused by the textile industry.
Many international designers took part in the colourful, creative programme.

Election of the ‘Best Integrated Afro-German Woman’
In comparisons between women and men, studies describe women as better leaders in the following areas:
- Communication
- Strengthening communities
- Following ethical principles when making decisions
- Showing courage and patience
- Inspiring greater passion for work
To be an ambassador for the African community in Germany, a voice for the diaspora and a strong symbol of its representation and engagement. To use her leadership skills to create a platform that strengthens ties between the African community and Germans.
